About Annekatrin Meyers
I am an artist and filmmaker drawn to ancient myth and poetry.
I studied media art and spent many years working in publishing while making films alongside it. Today, I direct and produce films in the fashion and lifestyle world. Working so closely with images of beauty inevitably leads to questions about its meaning and its lifespan. In an industry built on appearance, I began to reflect on transience — and on whether beauty must disappear in order to be remembered.
In my personal work, I explore poetry and the ancient human longing for permanence and meaning. Ovid’s Metamorphoses, with its stories of transformation — of humans becoming plants or animals to survive, to resist, or to escape — has been a lasting source of inspiration. These myths speak of fragility and defiance, of loss and endurance.
Almost by accident, I began photographing flowers left over from a celebration. I placed them against the dark walls of my apartment. What started as an experiment slowly developed into an exploration of light, shadow, and impermanence — and into a visual language that felt truly my own.
I continued photographing fading bouquets, later recognizing the influence of “Chiaroscuro“ – the dramatic contrast of light and shadow found in classical still life painting.
I am especially drawn to flowers at the edge of decline. And there it was again: the transience of beauty. In fading, I began to recognize a different kind of beauty – quieter, stranger, and perhaps more enduring.
These images are an invitation to look closer — to discover the subtle, hidden beauty that often goes unnoticed.
The space where visual art and storytelling meet is where my work feels most at home.
